2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup sugar
2 tsp grated lemon peel
2 tsp Lemon Verbena
1 1/2 tsp cream of tartar
3/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup firm margarine/butter
1/3-1/2 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup dried cherries
Faerie Cherry Drop Scones
1. Heat oven to 425 degrees. Mix flour, sugar, lemon peel, Lemon Verbena, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl. Cut into margarine, using pastry blender or crisscrossing 2 knives, until mixture looks like fine crmbs. Stir in enough buttermilk so dough leaves slides of bowl and form a ball. Stir in cherries.
2. Drop about 1/3 cupfuls of dough about 1 inch apart on non greased cookie sheet. Brush with milk. Sprinkle with additional sugar if desired.
3. Bake 10 to 15 minutes or until light brown. Immediately remove from cookie sheet serve warm or cool. Makes about 10 scones.
